Thoughts on my capital

This painting is a different style than I've used in the past. A more simple approach. I didn't want to get caught up in the representation visuals. I wanted to concentrate on using the composition and color to support my idea. This piece came to me as I was leaving downtown Charleston, WV one night. A once-thriving city is at times empty. Businesses and the arts have suffered. I have a lone figure standing in the middle of the barren street pointing to the center of town where the heart of the city used to beat. The facades of the buildings look bright with color and light, but they are dying also.

I enjoyed infusing this piece with layers of color. A fun painting to work on.
