Day 57
I had a nice painting weekend. I started on Saturday and finished tonight. I thought I was ready to work on a larger piece so I took it up a notch, this painting is 16" x 20". I really like the way my small daily blog painting of this scene turned out, so why not go larger. I used the small painting as a color study. I adjusted the composition and added a little more detail.
One of things I really liked about the reference photo was the American flag hanging out front. I wasn't able to include it in the smaller version, so with the added room, I was able to put it back in. This scene just says summer to me, even though I shot it in fall. Empty rocking chairs, late evening sun. I also added a couple of empty bottles to the table to enhance the mood. I like how that adds to the quiet scene. It's as if these folks just walked into their home for the evening.
